Trent Van Alfen
Director, Impact Finance

As Director of Impact Finance, Trent leads projects helping partners and clients to design innovative solutions for steering capital toward social and environmental impact. Previously, he was a Director of Impact Strategy supporting organizations in developing stakeholder-driven strategies to grow and measure their impact.

Before joining the Institute, Trent served as Director of Policy & Innovation at the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative, where he provided technical assistance to partnerships between health plans and community organizations to address social determinants of health. His work led to the expansion of a home-based asthma program for over 850 families in New York City, a first-of-its-kind transaction that leveraged private investment repaid through Medicaid savings.

His entire career has maintained a focus on impact—he has also taught middle school Spanish, consulted for social enterprises in the US, Mexico, and India, and led a field experiment on ethnic identification in South Africa.

Trent holds an MBA from Georgetown McDonough School of Business, where he was a Global Social Enterprise and Development Fellow, and a BA in International Relations from Brigham Young University.
