The University of Utah plans to build a hospital and campus in West Valley City (WVC) and wants to ensure that its investment has a positive economic and social impact for the residents of West Valley, a majority minority city on the west side of Salt Lake County with meaningful economic disparities within the city as well.
The Sorenson Impact Institute conducted research and engaged with community stakeholders to develop recommendations of community wealth-building strategies for the residents of WVC; recommendations include placed-based investments and community ownership investment models, youth career pathways and workforce development, impact purchasing, financial inclusion, health equity and social capital.
