Sorenson Impact Foundation

The Sorenson Impact Foundation (SIF) invests in innovative social entrepreneurs and fund managers who look to solve the world’s most pressing issues. SIF’s investment and grantmaking activities focus on equitable opportunities for economic mobility, access to quality education and healthcare, and tangible improvements to quality of life.

Sorenson Impact Institute partnered with SIF to develop an IMM framework for their Program-Related Investments (PRI) portfolio. The engagement involved the development of a fund-level impact thesis, impact theses for their five impact focus areas, and an impact assessment tool to inform the investment decision. The engagement included identifying a core set of impact metrics for each impact focus area to collect from portfolio companies and a revision of their annual impact survey that is administered to each portfolio company to track impact performance.

SII also leads the production of SIF’s annual impact report, which covers its grantmaking, program-related investments, and mission-related investments.

Our Challenge

SIF’s program-related investments provide catalytic capital to scalable, high-impact business models that advances the Foundation’s charitable purposes. SIF needed an Impact Measurement and Management framework that ensures impact is deeply embedded in every step of the investment evaluation process - from initial sourcing and diligence all the way through to how they partner with their investees post-investment.

Our Work

SII partnered with SIF to develop an IMM framework for their Program-Related Investments (PRI) portfolio. The framework allows SIF to consistently and systematically assess, measure, and communicate the portfolio’s impact at both the investee and portfolio level.
