Regenerative Social Finance (RSF)

Regenerative Social Finance (RSF) is an impact-first financial services organization. They offer investment notes, donor-advised funds, and loans to mission-driven organizations to mobilize money to have a positive social and environmental impact. They have invested in healthier food systems, whole-child education, cleaner climates, stronger communities, and more.

Sorenson Impact Institute partnered with RSF to help them develop an IMM framework and plan for tracking, reporting, and communicating their impact. The engagement involved the development of an organization-wide theory of change, impact theses for their four core impact focus areas (food and agriculture, climate and energy, education, and community impact), an impact assessment tool, a list of impact metrics to track, and an IMM plan. The impact assessment tool was developed to allow RSF to have a consistent and transparent approach to assessing the impact of potential borrowers in order to inform the investment decision. The IMM plan provides guidance on the impact assessment tool, data collection and data reporting.

Our Challenge

It’s simple for organizations to track their outputs, such as how many dollars they lend out each year or how many social enterprises they invest in. However, it is difficult to translate those outputs into impact achieved, when the organizations financed don’t necessarily measure impact in the same way.

Our Work

Sorenson Impact Institute partnered with RSF to help them develop an IMM framework and plan for tracking, reporting, and communicating their impact. We supported RSF in developing an IMM framework that incorporates impact in every stage of their investment process including sourcing, credit underwriting, and portfolio management.
