Former Chief Operating Officer Katie Macc, today began her new role as acting CEO of the Sorenson Impact Institute. Macc assumes the position following Geoff Davis’ announcement that he would transition from his leadership role to a senior advisor position at the end of June, 2024.

“It’s really an honor to have this opportunity at a place that has so positively impacted the world in so many profound ways,” said Macc. “Over the last two years as COO, I have worked across the organization from overall strategic planning to deep involvement in our project work with clients. Across all of our practice areas are experts who are deeply committed to changing the world by connecting capital to impact, providing our field with important research and innovations, and training the next generation of impact leaders. It’s exciting to lead this team and this organization.”

Prior to the Institute, Macc co-founded the fintech company Juntos Global, which served over 5 million customers across three continents before it was acquired in 2021 by Nubank. Macc spent three years at the Dovetail Impact Foundation leading grantmaking and impact investing across Africa and India and seven years in microfinance. Macc currently serves on the board of the Park City Education Foundation. Macc joined the Institute in the fall of 2022.

“Katie is an exceptional leader and a fantastic example of the Institute’s values,” said Davis. “I have 100% confidence in her and the entire leadership team. I am thrilled for what lies ahead.”

Originally founded in 2001 as the first student-run venture fund in the nation and endowed by pioneering impact investor Jim Sorenson in 2013, the Sorenson Impact Institute has grown to become a leading multi-disciplinary impact organization housed at the University of Utah David Eccles School of Business. Unique to the impact space, the Institute offers a wide spectrum of services and expertise to help its partners across multiple sectors solve complex social and environmental challenges around the world while training future leaders in impact.

“The Institute is really positioned well to help build the marketplace for impact,” said Jim Sorenson. “Katie’s leadership has been key to getting to that position, and we know she is going to bring a strong vision and direction so that the Institute continues to evolve, grow and lead our field.”

Beginning in the fall of 2024, the Institute will celebrate the grand opening of the Impact and Prosperity Epicenter. Located in the heart of campus, the Epicenter will serve as a living-learning community with a diverse mix of students and professionals. The state-of-the-art building combines residential living — for nearly 800 students — with impact practitioners from the Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity and the Institute.
